Recently, there’s been a craze with the new Barbie movie, starring actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Many people were high in anticipation for the movie, some even wearing pink and dressing up to go see the movie. The media was swarmed with all types of posts, fan reviews, and clips from the movie. Internationally grossing across the globe as Barbie fans of all ages come to see the movie, while there have been different and negative reactions to the movie and all the traction it has gained over $1.36 billion dollars worldwide.
Once the movie was released, there were many different opinions, and imprints that were left with the audience once they left the theater. “It was a very emotional experience when I saw it, and she thinks that the craze is good and happy that the struggles of womanhood are being represented for the general public, especially young women and people who grew up with Barbie,” says Senior, Alexia Acevedo. A lot of people had emotional responses as they watched the movie.
Some of the criticism in the movie comes from the standpoint of the movie being too harsh on men, and not giving enough credit to the changes in women’s rights over the years. Additionally, despite the movie being about toys for children the movie wasn’t meant for the generally younger audience that traditionally would have and play with the dolls.
Despite this criticism, many people took this movie to heart and really resonated with the overall message additionally, “It definitely had a lot of female empowerment, but also featured how men can completely change a girls society because they are better in their ways but they end up learning how to coexist with the Barbies living in harmony. She has her own adventures in self-discovery and if she truly is set out to be that stereotypical Barbie or what she made to do more in her life. Seeing Barbie interact with the real world and with humans shows the sincerity and impact they left for all girls whether they are 5 or 85 because of the legacy and statement they have of you can be anything” – Sophomore, Jordan Shell.
The actresses and actors that were in the movie absolutely loved being a part of the overall message to support women and that anyone can do anything, Margot Robbie even got emotional talking about the movie, and how she felt playing Barbie and all of the pressure that followed her performance. Even the featured artists who wrote songs for the movie were impacted and just made them feel like they had a purpose in spreading such an important message, with strong emotions for people of all ages to enjoy.
