What should and what shouldn’t make a comeback…

1. Perms (for women)- Whether it straightens or curls your hair, you can never go wrong with a perm. When you hear the word ‘perm,’ you may think about your grandmother’s hair, but perms can be quite stylish for teenage girls as well. Perms were quite stylish back in the 1980’s and early 90s, and looking through pictures of women from that time, it’s no wonder why it was considered so stylish. Perms are extremely good looking and offer many benefits: perms make your hair look longer and more voluminous and they require little work with styling on a daily basis. Perms are a unique and stylish hairstyle, which is why I believe perms should make a comeback.
2. Vintage hats- I’m not talking about snapbacks or beanies but rather fedoras, boaters, panamas, and cloche hats. Hats and other headwear have been fashionable in American society since colonial days. Hats like tricornes and coonskin caps came and went, but recently hats are not as common as they used to be. Cowboy hats, snapbacks, and beanies are somewhat popular amongst Americans today, but I think more vintage looking hats should come back into style because of their sleek look. Vintage hats are classy and were once considered essential to everyday fashion. Throughout history, hats protected our eyes from the sun, kept our heads warm, and overall added to a good appearance, so I believe vintage hats should make a comeback.
3. Turtlenecks- Whether it’s a sweater or a dress, it’s probably best not to wear it. Turtlenecks have been a part of American men and women’s fashion since the 1950’s, but you don’t see them worn that often amongst teenagers nowadays. That’s probably for the better. They can be itchy, uncomfortable, and awkward looking, so there is little reason for them to make a comeback amongst teenagers. Why would anyone want to look like a turtle? If you’re looking to cover your neck for some reason, try a collared shirt or a scarf. There are a select few who could MAYBE pull a turtleneck off, but most of us can’t which is why I believe turtlenecks should never make a comeback.
4. Sweat suits- Wearing a sweat suit while going to the gym or working out is completely acceptable. However, wearing a sweat suit to be “fashionable” is unwise. Sweat suits grew in popularity in the 70s and 80s, but eventually began die down in the 2000’s. It should remain that way. Wearing sweat suits as a fashion piece makes wearers appear lazy. It’s probably better to wear something else. Although comfortable, sweat suits are tacky which is why I believe sweat suits should never make a comeback.
