Though the first day of practice was pushed off to a week later, the girls’ track team started their indoor season on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022. The first day was intended to take place on Tuesday, Jan. 18, but due to staff COVID-19 issues, it was postponed.

Head coach Mallory Johnson told the team through Remind, “I understand this may be upsetting for many of you, and this wasn’t an easy decision to make but it is only 1 week.”

Coaches held tryouts in the fieldhouse, although it isn’t often that any of those who try out get cut. The first practice is usually meant to test the girls in different track and field events to see who would perform best in what area. Girls are then separated into varsity and junior varsity.

Sophomore Corrine Thomas shared, “I’m so excited for this season because there is great potential to make it to state and become better athletes!” Another teammate Miniya Thomspon voiced, “I’m looking forward to becoming a better athlete, but I’m also ready to make new memories and inside jokes!”

The girls’ Black and Gold meet, which was combined with the boys, took place on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2022 to get the first official times in.
