This 2023-2024 school year, English classrooms at Joliet West received new projecting TV systems to replace the old projectors.
The old projectors were dull and parts were no longer being made for them to repair. The new TVs are used the same as the projectors in the way that teachers hook them up to the device at their desk to share their screen with the class.
The differences in the new TVs are that they are brighter and overall clearer, making the projections visible from all around the room without having to dim the lights. These new screens are also interactive and touch screen, offering mor learning opportunities for engagement. The screens are also on wheels so the teachers can choose where they want to position the TVs in the room.
Teachers and students agree that the large size and clear viewing are commendable characteristics of the new screens.
Jeff Woo from the technology department at Joliet West says, “The TVs are on moveable carts due to building restructuring in the near future.”
Amy Malizia, Pre-AP Honors English 1 teacher, says, “The new screens allow for more interaction with technology in class with students and teachers and also allows for me as a teacher to move from one online application to another easily.”
Students have said they like the new screens more than the projectors because they make note taking easier. Bella Meza, sophomore at Joliet West, says, “The screens are large enough where you can see them from further away.” The classroom lights being able to stay on allows students to be able to see what they are writing while also being able to see what is on the screen as well as the large screens helping students with vision issues be able to see the screen without having to sit at the front of the classroom. Some English teachers continue to use the old projector as well as the new TV to make viewing the projections easier from different angles in the classroom.
The old projectors worked well but most English teachers and students agree that the new screens were a much needed upgrade.
