Recently many students have noticed that the D building bathrooms have been permanently closed. This is due to continued inappropriate behavior being reported and discovered within and near the bathrooms. The bathrooms in the field house and locker rooms are supposed to remain open.

School security and staff monitor the bathrooms as much as possible. If inappropriate behavior is observed, students are encouraged to report it immediately.

Different actions do result in a variety of consequences, for instance, smoking or vaping in school will result in a 150 dollar fine from the Joliet Police Department.

Many wonder if this is the cause of the numerous fire alarms we have experienced this school year as well.
Arts & Communications Academy Coordinator, Mr. O’neil shared, “We will continue to work with students to ensure they have appropriate restroom accommodations.” He continued, “Restrooms in locker rooms, B building, G building, and field house are still open for student use.”

Many students express frustration with bathrooms being closed as this happens throughout the day in other areas of the building as well. Students shared that D building bathrooms being closed is a huge inconvenience, because even though the field house bathrooms should be unlocked, they aren’t. They also say how it is unfair that some students’ actions cause all students to suffer the consequences.

Junior Bella Crozier, shared “I am annoyed with the closure of the bathroom, I had to go all the way to G building to use the bathroom, and then got in trouble by security”

For the remainder of the school year to deter inappropriate behavior in other bathrooms throughout the school, security guards will be near each bathroom that is in use.
