M&Ms get new redesign

The Mars Corporation AKA the people who created M&M’s have recently introduced a redesign for their mascots. This announcement came out in the form of a YouTube video on January 19th. The purpose of this redesign is to represent the new “dynamic, progressive and world.”

One of the most notable changes would be from the green M&M. In 1997 she was given white heeled go-go boots, which was criticized because some people felt she was being sexualized in order to sell more products. Instead of her boots she now has white sneakers, so she can be known for” more than her boots”. Which is becoming a meme online because many people liked the old design.

Some other changes include a nicer or more welcoming face for the other female M&M’s. Which is the brown and green one. They changed this to promote unity for women. Also the colors of the arms and legs of all M&M’s were changed just for an overall cleaner look.

In the official statement from M&M’s they stated that, “The refreshed M&M’S brand will include a more modern take on the looks of our beloved characters, as well as more nuanced personalities to underscore the importance of self-expression and power of community through storytelling.” They continue to say, “M&M’S branding will also
reflect an updated tone of voice that is more inclusive, welcoming, and unifying, while remaining rooted in our sig-
nature jester wit and humor.”
