Trunk-or-Treat is an event meant for kids 13 and under, that gives students the ability to support children at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and to bring their Halloween spirit. This event happened on the 22nd from 4 to 6PM in the Joliet West parking lot with many clubs and sports coming together.
For this spooky season, students are allowed to have fun and dress up in costumes of their choice, following JTHS guidelines, while providing support to the children at UNICEF. UNICEF is an organization that stands up for and protects the rights of children worldwide, providing services and charity work in several countries to help children grow, stay safe, and be healthy. Their lifelong mission is to supply aid and resources to those in need, especially in areas where children are struggling the most.
The Trunk-or-Treat event is just one of the ways that UNICEF supports communities like Joliet.
Culinary Instructor Jasmine Rosenboom says, “I think this is a great opportunity for the school to get involved with the community. It really is to provide a safe space for kids to do their Trick-or-treating.”
This year is Rosenboom’s first time participating in the Trunk-or-Treat, and she’s certainly excited for it.
The benefit is for both older students and the children attending, the goal is to have a good time interacting with the younger kids and make the community a safer place to Trick-or-Treat.
Rosenboom also added, “Trunk-or-treat is a community building event where our clubs and teams can share some of their time with the next generation. They provide some magic with the trunk decorating, fun with the games, and overall inspiration. The little kids love to see the older kids and interact with them.”
Overall, this event mainly focuses on helping others and also partake in the spreading positivity within the community to make it stronger. The event hopes to maintain Halloween spirit for the kids and provide engaging activities/experiences to support the local families.
