Grab your friends, family and peers this March, and get ready to kick butts. Well, don’t actually get ready to beat people up, but to stand up against tobacco usage across the globe. Since 1996, National Kick Butts Day has been empowering adolescents to stand up, and refuse tobacco usage. Each year, the national day is March 18th, but the event dates may vary. Youth leaders, advocates and teachers often register and hold their very own event for this special day, in hopes to raise awareness of tobacco and how it is harmful, to encourage the youth to reject any sort of usage, and to get others to stand up against tobacco. Over 1,000 events are held across America alone in an attempt to keep fighting for this cause by everyday people. Close to home there about seven events which are held in Chicago, Elgin, Evanston, Peoria, Jerseyville, Staunton, and Flora Illinois. This leaves a wide opportunity for everyday people, to do something great. Anyone can take part, and anyone to make their own event. The events are safe, non-violent protests, have food, chants and fun! It’s never too late to join in on the action, because there’s always the year to follow, and hopefully more!
