Jeggings: The New Frontier

Michelle Lega, Copy Editor

Skinny jeans became a popular trend a few years back and as the years have gone on, the jeans have gotten tighter. Leggings have been a staple in the wardrobe, but usually to put under a skirt or dress. These two fashions combined to create jeggings, leggings that look like denim jeans.

Jeggings are versatile and can be used as pants or as leggings. Because they look like denim, they go with anything and are more comfortable than jeans. Skinny jeans are often uncomfortably tight, but jeggings are made of stretchy material which makes them easy to move around in. They are a good style for fall and spring because they are cooler than jeans.

They are offered in a variety of styles and washes just like jeans are. Some of them come with fake belt loops or buttons to give the impression of jeans. They can be worn with everything because they work with a shirt or a dress and their length is adjustable.

However, the wearer must be very comfortable with her body to pull off this look. Because jeggings are skintight, they show off every bulge and imperfection. There is also the argument of whether jeggings are considered pants or not. At West, leggings cannot be worn as pants unless the top is covering the butt. Jeggings are included in this, so it’s hard to determine what they should be defined as.

Jeggings are a smart investment for the fashionista, but there are still many other styles to explore. They are more versatile than jeans, but also more revealing. It’s up to you to decide if this style is good for you.
